Publication and Placement Verification
How to verify a placement is live, correct, and disclosed.
After publication, verify the placement is live, correct, and disclosed. Unverified placements are the most common source of client disputes. This guide covers how to verify a placement after publication. See The Backlink Marketplace Buyer's Guide for the full process.
What to verify
- The placement is live at the agreed URL
- The link points to the agreed target page
- The link attribute (rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow") is present in the HTML
- The disclosure label is visible on the page
- The anchor text matches the brief
- The content matches the approved version
How to verify
- Visit the live URL and confirm the placement is visible.
- Inspect the link's HTML to confirm the rel attribute is present in the initial HTML (not added by JavaScript).
- Confirm the disclosure label is visible without user action.
- Screenshot or archive the placement for records.
- Log the verification with the date and result.
