New Queries: Capturing Emerging Local Demand
How to identify and capitalize on newly appearing local queries.
New queries are search terms that recently started triggering impressions for your site. They signal emerging demand — topics your audience is newly searching for. This guide covers how to identify and capitalize on new queries. See Reading Search Console Performance Reports for the data source.
Identifying new queries
- In Search Console, compare the current period to the previous period.
- Filter for queries with impressions this period but none last period.
- Sort by impressions to find the most significant new queries.
- Check if a new query corresponds to a recent content publication.
Capitalizing on new demand
| Opportunity | Action |
|---|---|
| New query matches existing content | Optimize the page for the query (title, headings, internal links) |
| New query has no matching content | Create a new page targeting the query |
| New query is a trend | Publish timely content to capture the trend |
| New query is seasonal | Prepare content before the season peaks |
