Conversion Tracking Setup Checklist
Calls, forms, and profile actions tracked as conversions.
Conversion tracking measures the actions that matter โ calls, form submissions, and profile actions. Without it, you cannot report on outcomes. This checklist covers the setup for local lead tracking. See Local SEO Analytics for the measurement framework.
Define conversions
- List the actions that count as conversions (calls, forms, directions, bookings)
- Assign a value to each conversion type where possible
- Distinguish micro-conversions (newsletter sign-up) from macro-conversions (form submission)
Implement tracking
- Set up Google Analytics 4 events for form submissions
- Use call tracking or tel: link tracking for phone calls
- Enable Business Profile call and direction action tracking
- Set up conversion goals in GA4
- Test each conversion path end-to-end
Validate and maintain
- Confirm conversions appear in GA4 within 24 hours
- Check for duplicate or missing conversion events
- Document the tracking setup for future reference
- Re-test after any site change that affects forms or phone links
