Local Link Reclamation Checklist
Find brand mentions, broken links, and unlinked citations to reclaim.
Link reclamation is the process of finding brand mentions, broken links, and unlinked citations and turning them into links. It is one of the lowest-risk link-building tactics because the mention already exists. This checklist covers the reclamation process.
Find opportunities
- Search for the business name in quotes to find unlinked mentions
- Search for the business name plus 'review', 'interview', or 'featured'
- Check for broken inbound links (404s pointing to old URLs)
- Search for the business address or phone on directory sites
- Check news sites and blogs for mentions without links
Outreach
- Contact the site owner or author politely
- Provide the exact URL and suggested anchor text
- Explain why the link adds value to their readers
- Follow up once if no response after a week
Track and maintain
- Log each opportunity and its status
- Confirm the link is live after outreach
- Reclaim new mentions periodically (monthly or quarterly)
